Kenneth Zink

Kenneth Zink – Editor

What do you get when you combine an MFA, nearly a decade of professional editing experience, and far too many wings and donuts? This guy.

Overview

With an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts and nearly a decade of professional editorial experience, I understand both sides of the storytelling process: writing and editing. Writing is like jamming out, seeing where the music takes you, while editing is like sculpting, honing the material to unearth the beating heart of your story.

Having worked with best-selling authors like Suzanne Young, Virna DePaul, Megan Crewe, and Mira Lyn Kelly, I have extensive experience editing for both traditionally published and independently published writers across virtually all genres, including fantasy, romance, science fiction, literary fiction, mystery/thriller, and nonfiction.

Inviting an editor into your own private world of writing can be scary to say the least, which is why my focus is always on providing both substantive praise and substantive criticism while upholding style and voice. My job is to be honest, accurate, and kind. I also like to remind my clients that, regardless of how many notes I give, you can accept or reject as many of them as you like. Your manuscript will always be your manuscript. Nothing will ever change that.

A client of mine once said, “You didn’t just make my story better, you made me a better writer. I feel like I took a college course on creative writing.” I believe in the “teach a man or woman to fish” parable. My goal isn’t to just give you marching orders but to explain the why and how behind my feedback so you can move forward with knowledge and skills you’ll take with you for the rest of your writing life.

At the end of the day, I provide authors with fast, thorough, and experienced editing services. Happy writing!

Many folks claim to be editors, but not all of them possess the same degree of talent. I had my manuscript edited by two others before serendipity struck and I found Kenneth. His work was inspired. He is a literary savant disguised as a mere mortal. He found things in my manuscript that I thought...

Kenneth was incredible. He took my 150k word monster of a sci-fi novel and dissected it down to the tiniest of details. He understands characters, complex plots, nuanced themes, and how to weave 300 page-spanning arcs into a compelling story. He knows what works and what doesn't and is not afraid...
